A study in Silver

I took a foray into metalsmithing, and have done some work in silver with stone setting. I have not done a lot of work in metal yet, but I hope to do more and combine the book arts with metalsmithing eventually.

Pieces include: heart shaped pendant with carnelian cabochon, small pendants with royston turquoise and green agate.

Copper creations

Learning metalsmithing for jewelry, I first learned all techniques using copper. It is a more forgiving material, and also a cheaper material to work with than silver, so you can play and experiment a lot more than you might want to with silver.

Works: a pair of asymmetrical earrings, the same earrings before shaping and applying patina, mismatched shaped earrings, and a squid pendant with dangling tentacles.

Cased in bindings

All of these bindings were made with pre-bound text blocks. All were made for fun and given to friends as gifts. Made using papers and faux leathers salvaged from bindery closing auctions as well as papers purchased in small local craft shops. Machine-embroidered endbands and bookmark ribbons added for flair.
